CAPI
CAPI (Common ISDN API)
is an application programming interface standard used
to access
``ISDN''
devices.
In the SCO ISDN device driver implementation
on UnixWare 7,
CAPI messages are embedded in
``MDI''
messages, allowing applications or other drivers to
communicate with an ISDN device through the
MDI/CAPI interface.
CAPI provides:
-
support for basic call features, such as call setup and teardown
-
multiple B-channel support for data and/or voice connections
-
multiple logical connection support for data links within a
physical connection
-
optional selection of different services and protocols during
connection setup and incoming calls
-
transparent interface for protocols above layer 3
-
support for Basic Rate Interfaces (BRI) and Primary Rate
Interfaces (PRI) on multiple ISDN devices
-
support for multiple applications
-
operating system-independent messages
-
an operating system-dependent exchange mechanism for optimum
operating system integration
-
a high throughput, asynchronous event-driven mechanism
-
a well defined interface for device-specific expansions

CAPI-Association web site.
