Porting network adapter drivers to MDI 2
UnixWare 7 network adapter drivers are implemented
using MDI 2 and later versions.
SCO UnixWare 2.0 DLPI drivers
cannot be developed on UnixWare 7 systems,
although some will work on early releases of UnixWare 7; see
``DLPI''.
Drivers for network cards that use media types
other than those supported by MDI
can be implemented using the UnixWare 7 DLPI interface.
This topic does not address raw DLPI drivers
although some of the material is relevant.
This chapter summarizes the work required
to convert earlier SCO network drivers
to MDI version 2:
MDI version 2 drivers can use
DDI 7, 7mp, 8 or 8mp;
for general information about porting drivers
to DDI 8, see:
MDI version 1 is the interface used
to implement network adapter drivers on SCO OpenServer.
The MDI manual pages document both the
UnixWare 7 and SCO OpenServer interfaces;
detailed porting notes are included on the manual pages.
For more information about MDI interface versions, see
``MDI''.
Ported drivers should also adhere to the guidelines in:
