named.local(4tcp)

named.local -- local loopback interface file

Synopsis

[$INCLUDE named.soa]

1.0.0.127.IN_ADDR.ARPA. IN PTR localhost.

Description

The named.local file specifies the PTR record for the local loopback interface at the IP address 127.0.0.1. The pointer record is needed for translating the loopback address 127.0.0.1 to localhost, for example by gethostbyaddr(3N). It is vital to the proper operation of every name server that the 127.0.0.1 address should have a PTR record pointing to localhost.

There should also be a corresponding A record for localhost in the named.hosts(4tcp) file:

   localhost IN A 127.0.0.1

Files

/etc/inet/named.d/db.local
suggested location for local loopback interface file
