whatis -- keyword database

Format

name (section) - description

Description

The keyword database /usr/man/whatis is created using the makewhatis command. It is used by man, apropos and whatis.

Each entry in whatis consists of a line specifying a manual page name, its section, and a short description.

Examples

The entry for this manual page would be:
   whatis (F)   - keyword database
